The primary nemesis of the Mario series is King Bowser Koopa Sr., usually known as King Koopa or Bowser. Despite being the primary enemy in the Super Mario Bros. games, he plays a more anti-heroic role in several Mario RPGs and is an ally in the Skylanders series. Bowser is a turtle-like creature with the ability to spew fire from his lips. He assists Mario in the Mario RPGs.
It could be more credible if they took out the fight against Peach's Castle. However, Giant Bowser vs. Giant Dark Bowser would absolutely overshadow Mario Bros. vs. Fawful/Dark Star Core, making it seem less like a collaborative fight with the Mario Bros. and Bowser. And if they kept the standard Bowser vs. Dark Bowser combat, it would seem a little repetitive and unneeded after the enormous battle. It's a fantastic concept in principle, but owing to those concerns, I don't see it working out very well until the last section is more densely packed with monsters or the Mario Bros. are neglected. I believe they did a good job of making all of the protags essential, with Bowser being in charge of keeping Dark Bowser in control and pulling out Fawful, and the Mario Bros. deactivating Fawful and eventually destroying the Core.
