Jacob was exiled in verses 1–5. In contrast to the earlier account in Genesis 27, in which Isaac appeared to be on his deathbed (27:1-2), Isaac appeared to be fully functional (he ultimately goes on to live 80 more years; see Genesis 35:28-29). Isaac gave Jacob a gift that he didn't intend for him to have "Abraham's blessing" and the promise that he would "inherit the land... which Jacob's Departure." 1 As a result, Isaac summoned Jacob and blessed him.
