[edit] Plot In the Mushroom Kingdom, Mario goes for a walk and discovers a mysterious black sludge M (resembling Shadow Mario's logo from Super Mario Sunshine). After being absorbed by it, Mario finds himself in Lake Lapcat, an archipelago of cat-themed islands that has become overrun with black sludge. When Mario arrives, he encounters Fury Bowser, a dark version of Bowser who has grown to colossal proportions. Bowser flees after Mario collects a Cat Shine. Bowser Jr. appears and begs Mario for assistance in restoring his father to normalcy, to which Mario reluctantly agrees.
