Kokichi and Kaito have a turbulent relationship characterised by continual hostility and conflicts since Kokichi is the conventional evil character and Kaito is the stereotypical hero type. Neither party comprehends the other's point of view14 Kokichi regards Kaito as naive and stupid for having such irrational confidence in people, whilst Kaito despises Kokichi's falsehoods and more cynical way of thinking. However, Kokichi recognizes that they just have different perspectives since they come from different backgrounds and has mentioned that he doesn't want Kaito to change because his present attitude keeps things interesting, demonstrating that he does like Kaito in certain ways. Kaito, on the other hand, seems to despise Kokichi's opinions, finding them immensely annoying and continually refusing to trust Kokichi's comments despite his claims of believing in everyone, since he feels Kokichi will never alter his ways.
