My Little Pony Friendship is Magic is an animated series based on the iconic My Little Pony property created by Hasbro. Derpibooru rose to prominence after the shutdown of its predecessor Ponibooru on August 17th, 2012. Ponibooru stated on June 17th, 2012, that it will be shutting down all upload facilities and taking the site down two months later. Cereal Velocity, an Equestria Daily user, commented on the news, saying, âAccording to the site owner, this was ânot due to any form of external pressure, nor is it due to financial concerns. The reasons are personal: I (Eco/Archive/&c) have just reached a point where I cannot see any way to manage the site that I can live with, nor do I have anybody I trust to run the site in a manner that I can endorse.ââ
