They are tiny (and I mean tiny) colorful beads that you place on a spikey mat in different patterns and designs, then cover with baking paper and iron until they melt and fuse together. Perler is a brand name, but you can also purchase them as Hama beads, and there are many âgenericâ fusible/melty beads, such as the enormous tub we acquired from Ikea. Not all fusible beads are the same. We found the Ikea ones to be excellent and reasonably priced, but the lesser generic ones we tested were not. As a result, it is worthwhile to get brand-name beads or to purchase a small quantity and try them out beforehand.
