Zenitsu's hearing enabled him to hear the sickening remarks made behind his back by girls. This made him so afraid of girls that he couldn't stand it any longer (though his naturally cheery and persistent nature allowed him to recover quickly). Despite falling in love with Nezuko at first sight, Zenitsu was skeptical of Tanjiro's description of her. He couldn't believe girls could be so unselfishly nice. When he saw how Nezuko wasn't two-faced and was truly kind, he became so happy that he almost ascended to heaven and saw paradise for a brief moment. [22]
