Rock Gnome Artificer 5E

Instead, I'd like to know if there's any other way for my Rock Gnome Artificer to be proficient with tinker's tools. Can I, for example, take the same tool proficiency through Artificer even though I already have it through the Rock Gnome's Tinker racial trait to qualify for Tool Expertise? I'd even be content with a method that doesn't require any Tool Expertise at all. Is it possible for a Rock Gnome Artificer to be proficient in both Tinker's Tools and Magic? Apart from the DM saying "screw it, you just do it because I say so," Anything official or UA is permitted, but no homebrew or DM fiat is permitted. Also, while I would prefer no multiclassing, if an answer mentions it alongside other potential solutions for completeness, I will not object.

You can only infuse a certain number of items (see their chart), but in the early levels, you should be able to infuse 2-3. I recommend infusing a defensive buff into your armor or shield, giving an offensive buff to one of your allies, and keeping the third for a flexible choice when you need specific magic items or solutions to problems. At level 7, you can use your reaction to add your Intelligence bonus to a check or saving throw that you or a friend fails. This has the potential to make a HUGE difference. By level 7, your Intelligence should be a +4, and a +4 can easily save you or an ally from something deadly. You can use it a number of times per long rest equal to your Intelligence mod (which should be 4) and that's a lot of dice manipulation.

December 19, 2018 However, a Rock Gnome Artificer will always be worse with tinker's tools than any other Artificer (who chose tinker's tools as a chosen tool proficiency), which irritates me. I'm not going to question why this was worded this way, or why Artificers don't all get free proficiency with tinker's tools, or anything else; this is...

Any simple weapon will suffice. We recommend getting the light crossbow and either light or medium armor. You will only take levels in the artificer class. You will only be leveling up in the artificer class. At level 2, your infusions boost your abilities to a whole new level. Grab: Enhanced Defense, Repeating Shot, Replicate Magic Item (Bag of Holding), and whatever else appeals to you.
