This delta-wing weapon, propelled by a liquid-fuel rocket engine, is capable of striking both fixed ground targets and vessels of great value. Accelerating to near hypersonic speeds in excess of Mach 4 during the last run-in to the target, it continues to provide a challenge to air defense systems despite its age. It is capable of carrying either a nuclear or conventional warhead and has a range of up to 317 miles. It has been superseded by the apparently identical Kh-32, which has a range of about 559 miles.
