Ken Kaneki is a typical 18-year-old college student who enjoys reading. The day he met Rize Kamishiro, a girl he'd just met, in a cafe he frequents, his life was anything from average. Before she was hit by an I-beam, Rize attacked him and left him in severe condition. He was taken to the hospital, where he eventually regained consciousness. After Rize's organs were beyond recovery, he was implanted with one of his organs, which converted him into a half-ghoul, half-human hybrid. Keeping his ghoul nature a secret is difficult for him, as he constantly battles his ghoul nature while attempting to live as a regular human person. A local coffee shop, the Anteiku, has given him a job while he learns more about his newfound powers and keeps his humanity in control. information acquired via Zerochan and carllustre87
As a result, it's hard to tell whether the anime will truly produce a third season. Season 2 ends with the strong implication that Kaneki has died. He had two bullet wounds in his skull by the time the manga came to an end, and it was assumed that he was dead. Tokyo Ghoul came to an end at this point. Season 3 of Tokyo Ghoul is the sole ray of sunshine in an otherwise bleak scenario. The tale revolves on CCG member Haise Sasaki (spoiler)

"To you, I've been nothing more than a pawn. You've been playing tricks on me for a time now. In comparison, I'm not as skilled, intelligent, or physically powerful as you are. I can't even defend a tiny nation, much alone the whole planet. Every time I've confronted you before, I've come up short. So, despite all of that, I'm going to do this this time around. Assassinate and annihilate the enemy! Ghouls AND PEOPLE!"
